Exploratory examination of the factors that contribute to the continuation of daily “supporting sports” among young people

Abstract The purpose of this study was to clarify the factors that contribute to the continuation of daily “supporting sports”, focusing on the young people who have experience in continuing such activities. W...e interviewed 8 people in their 20s and categorized the results using the KJ method. As a result of the discussions among the three researchers, the results were summarized into four categories: positive/internal factors, positive/external factors, negative/internal factors, and negative/external factors. The most frequently answered factor for continuation was the positive/intrinsic factor, suggesting that an attitude of attachment for the activity is important for the continuation of daily supporting sports activities. In addition to positive factors, negative factors, such as a sense of obligation to the activity, were also suggested to be related to the continuation of the activity among young people. To solve the social problem of a shortage of human resources who “supporting sports” in daily life, in addition to fostering a sports enthusiast attitude in young people, it is necessary to create an environment in which activities can be continued in a fun and easygoing manner.show more
