Abstract To Investigate the nutritional condition in the Tibetan immigrants living in the suburban district of Kathmandu in Nepal, we carried out the nutrition survey using the 24-hour recall method in 536 sub...jects(237 men and 299 women, aged from 20 to 85). Their usual daily diet mainly consisted of noodle, Tibetan bread, sanba and Tibetan tea. The average daily consumption of Tibetan tea was 767 ml in men and 970 ml in women, respectively, and the amount of the tea consumption was positively correlated with age. Tibetan tea was found to be rich in both saturated and mono-unsaturated fatty acid, especially in oleinic acid, and no poly-unsaturated fatty acid was found. Twelve % of total energy was taken from protein, 20-23% from fat and 65-68% from carbohydrate. Animal protein and animal fat ratios were 25% and 67%, respectively. The intake of Tibetan tea was positively correlated with apo-AI. These results suggest that the Tibetan tea may be one of the important nutritional foods for not only the Tibetan natives but also the Tibetan immigrants.show more
