Attitude and motivation are among the most important factors that determine learners’outcomes. This paper attempted to identify the attitudes and motivation factors of Singaporean secondary school stu...dents who are learning Japanese as a third language at the Language Centre of Ministry of Education Singapore. Data were collected by using a multiple-choice questionnaire consisting of 34 reasons for learning Japanese. A total of 271 students answered the questionnaire. Six motivational factors were identified by using a Factor Analysis: interest in language learning, self-esteem, knowing about Japan, job, Japanese popular culture, travel and interaction with Japanese. The results suggested that motivational constructs and the relationships between motivation and learners depend on the learning contexts and therefore it is necessary to further examine the correlation between motivation and learning context in a learner-specific and situation-specific way.続きを見る
