The objective of the study was to examine the effect of social support on occupational adaptation of patients with higher brain dysfunction from the viewpoint of the patient. A case study was performe...d to understand the experience of a patient without loss of individuality. The subject was a worker who had cerebral hemorrhage in his thirties and developed physical and higher brain dysfunction, and was currently employed in a special position for handicapped people. In an interview, he indicated that he had returned to his previous job, but then left because he suffered a painful experience without appropriate support for his particular challenges. Subsequently, he began to work at his current workplace, which provided this support. A consideration of life history indicated the kinds of emotional support and tools required to promote occupational adaptation of people with handicaps. Appropriate social support in the workplace may allow disabled persons to recover self-esteem, which could lead to greater confidence in their work and contribute to a more inclusive society for the working disabled.続きを見る
