Abstract The purpose of this study was to propose a method of understanding internal and external maladaptation using both phenomenological descriptive methods and psychodynamic interpretation methods. Data we...re gathered through interviews using P-F study with the question and answer method, and the cognitive-behavior model using the column technique was based on the cognitive-behavior model. By conducting interviews using both methods, it was possible to examine the psychological process behind the behavior and gain a more detailed understanding of the interviewed individual. In addition, using the column technique made it possible to understand what kind of reactions might be caused by stressors and how to respond to them. This made it possible to examine the individual’s adaptation in detail. The study results suggested that combining psychodynamic interpretation through P-F study and phenomenon descriptive understanding gained by the column technique may lead to an assessment that emphasizes individuality in examining psychological processes that cannot be measured by the self-report stress response scale. Future studies will be needed to verify the clinical utilization of the model.show more
