Abstract |
A set of wooden and ornate custom-made furniture with which filled the rooms the main building of the faculty of engineering in Kyushu University Hakozaki campus had been custom-made in 1930. Its desi...gn contained pictorial allusions not only to western classical styles, but also to Japanese and Asian art and cultures. In the Kyushu 'Imperial' University in middle 20th century, which promoted 'well-being' of Asian studies, most notably, one has to reckon with the multicultural designs closely intermingled in the furniture, and they seem to produce a different atmosphere from other 'Imperial' Universities represent the most extreme examples of a wider trend of the studies in Kyushu among the cluster as a whole.show more
