This paper deals with two tectonic movements taken place in North Kyushu from Late Cretaceous to Early Miocene, besides uplifting movements in the granitic rock regionsthe Seburi, Sangun and Fukuchiya...ma mountainlands. One of these movements is the late Prof. Koto's Peri-Tunghai tectonic movement, which is represented by the Amakusa-Himenoura folding structure of NNE-SSW trend, the Sasagawa fault and its related overthrusts, and the Nomo overthrust towards SSE from NNW. The other is the compressional movement towards East from West. In this movement the basement rocks of the Tertiary, which had eroded surface, were tilted, and the eastern margin of the basement was cut by a fault of NNW-SSE trend, resulting in that the depositional basins of the coal-fields of North Kyushu were formed. These two tectonic movements, the faults of NNW-SSE trend and the foldings of NNE trend, are well recognized in one and the same area of the Amakusa coal-field where the Peri-Tunghai tectonic movement is typically developed. These two movements are classified on the basis of the major trend of the geologic structure.続きを見る
