概要 A Mn-carbonate nodule was found from the Cretaceous Susaki Formation of the Shimanto Belt in Kochi Prefecture, Shikoku. It occurred from the middle part of a black to pale green mudstone bed (nearly 4...0m thick) associated with a red mustone in the Susaki Formation. The Mn-carbonate nodule consists mainly of very small, pale purple to white rhodochrosite spherulites with dark purple clay matrix rich in illite and quartz. Rhodochrosite was identified by the X-ray diffraction pattern (Fig. 4) and electron probe microanalysis (Fig. 5 and Table 1). Results of analysis indicate that the rhodochrosite has a homogeneous texture and a normal chemical composition. Field evidence indicates that this Mn-carbonate nodule is neither of the hydro thermal product nor the sedimentary ore relating to the submarine volcanism. The chemical composition and internal structure of the nodule are different from those of deep sea manganese nodules found in the Pacific basin. In conclusion, it is considered that the Mn-carbonate nodule from the Susaki Formation was probably formed during the submarine sedimentation and diagenesis.続きを見る
