Abstract The Sobosan volcanic activities are divided into two stages, they are early stage (pre-caldera stage) and late stage (post-caldera stage). The Sobosan volcanic rocks of the early stage are composed of... lavas and pyroclastics of dacite and rhyolite, and the rocks of the late stage composed mainly of lavas and pyroclastics of andesite and partially of dacitic rocks. The chemical and normative mineral compositions of the Sobosan volcanic rocks are shown in Table 2. Generally, they are rich in MgO, K_2O and Na_2O+K_2O contents, while poor in Fe_2O_3, FeO+Fe_2O_3 and CaO contents. As shown in Table 3, chemical compositions of the Sobosan volcanic rocks correspond to respective rock types in two stages of the Sobosan volcanic activities, consequently the chemical compositions of the volcanic rocks in the early and late stages are shown a distinguished contrast. Petrochemical characters are shown in the silica-total-alkalies (Na_2O+K_2O)diagram (Fig. 2), the normative or-ab-an, normative wo-en-fs, normative wo-fo-Q, normative Q-fo-fa and Mg0-(Fe0+Fe20a)-(Na20+氏0) triangular diagrams (Figs. 3-7). As shown in these figures, the evolutional tendencies of the Sobosan volcanic rocks are exactly the same as those of the Ishizuchi-yama volcanic rocks and other Setouchi volcanic rocks.show more
