Abstract Analytical techniques of X-ray fluorescence analysis for twelve trace elements (Nb, Zr, Y, Sr, Rb, Th, Pb, Ga, Zn, Cu, Ni, Co) in siilil icate rocks were investigated, using pressed-powder pellets. Th...e pellets were made by pressing a mixture of 1. 5g rock powder and 1. 5g Li_2B_4O_7 filled in aluminium ring. The pellets yield higher X-ray intensity and S/N ratio than fused-glass disks of NAKADA (1985), so that smaller lowerlimit of detection and better precision were realized. The intensities of background at 2θ=3 45°. and of Fe-Ka were used to remove matrix effects. Calibration lines were constructed, using fourteen inter-laboratory standard-rock samples and a chemical reagent of Si0_2. Analytical method for Cr was also investigated, using fused-glass disks of synthetic standard samples, as well as NAKADA (1985). The usage of both pressed-poweder pellet and fused-glass disk made us possible to determine concentrations of fifteen trace elements and ten major elements in silicate rocks with X-ray fluorescence spectrometer in our laboratory.show more
