| Abstract | Chinese learners of Japanese have trouble in mastering Japanese relative clauses, due to their differences. There are many linguists who wrote about Japanese relative clauses. This paper is intended t...o clarify the intervention as well as the function of toyuu in Japanese relative clauses. By Hideo Teramura, Japanese relative clauses are divided into "Internal Relative clauses" and "External Relative clauses." The expressions such as toyuu, toitta, tono and yona frequently appear between the noun and the clause. So there are many debates retated to this matter,and debate on the function of toyuu is one of the discussions about them. However, toyuu was not supposed to appear in the Internal relative clauses until Takayuki Nakahata (1990) published his paper on the function of toyuu in Japanese Internal relative clauses. Based on the former research, this paper supports the idea that toyuu also exist in Internal relative clauses, and further it will clarify another function of toyuu Illustration.show more |
