Abstract	This paper analyses the contrasting approaches between the Japanese and Chinese ways of disagreeing on various subjects. The questionnaires given to 30 Japanese and 30 Chinese people show the followin...g results:(1) Only 30 percent of the Japanese expressed disagreement 3 out of 6 scenarios;(2) Both the Japanese and the Chinese use indirect expressions rather than direct expressions to declare disagreement, although the Japanese use more indirect expressions than the Chinese;(3) The Japanese and the Chinese use different strategies in order to express disagreement politely.show more
