| 概要 | This study on cross-cultural pragmatics on apology considers and makes clear cultural value differ-ences. These are concepts and recognize how apology functions in both Japanese and Malay Culture. In ...this paper, apology consciousness was compared, based on the perspective of an'assailants view,'using questionnaires and an interview method. The results show differences in 1) Apology consciousness (the degree to which someone feels they should apologize), and 2 (the degree of inexcusability and regretability) in both Japanese and Malay cultures. Japanese respondents describe that in some scenes, item 1 was higher than item 2 and vice versa. On the other hand, Malay respondents describe that items 1 ranked higher than item 2 and not vice versa. Based on the results mentioned above a further analysis was made by comparing the correlation between the two items of apology consciousness in both cultures and the findings have shown a sharp contrast between the apology order/ discipline in Japanese and Malay culture. Thus, in a scene such as [refused a cash loan] or with [an improper remark such as talking badly about someone] Malay respondents results showed a high ranking in both apology consciousness items. By way of conclusion, I suggest that the differences are caused by the interpretation and adaptation meaning of'obligation'and'duty'within the composition of humanity in both cultures.続きを見る |
