Abstract |
Nowadays, world history textbooks in Japanese high schools provide cause-and-effect explanations of the flow of Japanese rule over Korea, from the “military politics” of the military police after the ...annexation of Korea, to the outbreak of the independence movement known as the “3.1 Movement,” and the start of “cultural politics” to end it. In this article, I would like to raise some doubts about the existing dichotomous historical accounts that half-mechanically oppose “military decisions” and “culture,” and to first present some of my own understanding.show more
