概要 We have focused on Kant’s view of human beings as the rationale of exclusion of particular people in the context of the critique of modern education. For example, Gert J. J. Biesta points out that Kan...t set a norm of “what it means to be human” in “autonomy based upon the use of reason” and excluded people who do not live up to this norm. It is true that this opinion is correct and important, but we need to confirm the profundity of Kant’s thought, in order not to restrict our understanding of Kant to ‘modern’ aspects. He set a norm of “what it means to be human” in “autonomy based upon the use of reason,” but on the other hand, researched on people’s diverse ways of living.
In this paper, focusing on Kant’s anthropology, I evaluate Kant as an anthropologist and try to change our conventional understanding of Kant. His anthropology, which described human beings in the realm of experience, looks distinctly different from other disciplines he worked on. For this reason, his anthropology has not been properly evaluated or has been given several negative evaluations. But his way of describing human beings in the realm of experience represents his deep insight into human beings. He tried to depict the real world where people live their daily lives, in order that people could understand the world better. So his perspective of seeing human beings as individuals was directed toward the world. He emphasized the importance of paying attention to the fact that human beings live in various ways.
This study is just a starting point for reading of Kant’s works. Taking into consideration the possibility that his perspective of seeing human beings as individuals were included in other disciplines he worked on, we need to review his works. This means that we need to read his works seeing him as a person. Kant was a person, like us, who lived his daily life and made sense of the world in his own way. When we see him as such a person, his works have a new look which is not restricted to ‘modern’ aspects.
