Abstract The reformed TA System at Kyushu University took effect from the 2019 Fall semester and now about one year went by. The purpose of this report is making a record about the first-year experience of the... new TA system so that this can be used for the further improvement in the future. For the reformation of the TA system, two surveys had done: the 2005 survey and the 2017 survey. Based on the result of those two surveys, the new TA system was designed. The main features of the new TA system are the followings: (1) dividing the conventional single TA level into three levels and standardizing each level’s works, (2) enhancing TA’s expertise by offering TA education programs and Preparing Future Faculty Program, (3) enriching supports for TAs by setting up TA Support Desk and TA Portal. To understand students’ satisfaction about the new TA system, the 2019 survey was conducted. As the result, students showed high satisfaction overall. Particularly, students were satisfied with raising in hourly wage (91%), encouraging instructors to get TAs engaged in educational works (not in office works) (75%), and standardizing each level’s works (73%). However, there are several remained problems for the further improvement of the TA System such as the followings: sharing findings about hiring TA with instructors and taking advantages of the New TA system for the better-quality class. Also, further methods to get TAs engaged in a class have to be introduced in accordance with the change of educational environment of a university such as by COVID-19 for preparing “new normal”.show more
