This paper is a study about city planning history in China during Modem Era. In particular, this paper aims to analyze about the urban maintenance by the new life movement in Suzhou. The new life move...ment aimed to improve about food, clothing, housing and behavior. The clean and hygienic life of people has had a positive effect on the urban environment. And then, the merchant guild supported the new life movement and contributed to urban maintenance.
