Saji or Supuun : A Study git Variation in Denomination Caused by Loan Words

Abstract A questionaire survey with regard to the usage of Saji (native word) and Supuun (loan word) for the same referent was conducted on 48 female informants of various age groupes. They were asked to selec...t between these two terms when describing 12 spoons (cf. figure l) which differed in shape, size, qualiey, and function, by taking into account several different situations in which they might appear. It was found that, althogh there was a certain amount of individual and generational difference, the conditions and the situations in which Supuun was dominant were as follows.
