Abstract The purpose of this study was to observe the response to local cooling in male subjects. The response to local cooling was estimated by the cold pressor test (5±0.5℃ for 1 minute) in control (n=7), bo...rder line hypertension (n=12), and hypertension (n=10) groups. Skin temperature, core (tympanic and oral) temperature, heart rate and blood pressure were measured before, during and after the test. The results were summarised as follows : 1 . During local cooling, falls of the temperature of fore- and middle-fingers and increases of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure were induced in three groups. However, there were not obvious changes in heart rate and core temperature. 2. Heart rate of hypertension groups during and after the test was statistically higher than that of normal ones. 3. Recovery time of skin temperature after the cold pressor test in border line hypertension and hypertension groups had a tendency to delay compared with that of normal ones.show more
