概要 The purpose this paper is to elucidate an aspect of career support services provided by university organizations by examining the association between how university organizations value their career ce...nters and how career center staff are involved in the provision of educational career guidance. I hypothesized that career centers that are highly valued within the universities, give great authority to dedicated full-time staff, and that such career centers tend to have sufficient resources in place to allow full-time staff members to engage in educational career guidance activities. To test this, I conducted a nationwide questionnaire survey of university career centers and analyzed the association between staff contribution to organizational decision-making and staff involvement in educational activities. The results show that, in national and public universities, educational career guidance tasks are allocated mainly to part-time teaching staff, whereas in private universities, such tasks are performed by dedicated full-time staff. I also analyzed the degree of staff involvement relative to the extent of opportunities given to career services staff to: (i) develop career guidance programs; and (ii) participate in decisionmaking processes and make their voices heard. The results show that, in either case, the greater the opportunities given by the university, the greater the involvement of career services staff in educational career guidance activities. The opportunities (ii) above were more significantly associated with greater involvement of dedicated full-time staff in educational career guidance activities, presumably reflecting the greater authority represented by opportunities to contribute to organizational decision-making. Such opportunities as (i) and (ii) above were also significantly associated with the level of educational support made available to staff members by universities. Taken together, these results indicate an association between internal evaluation of university career centers and staff involvement in educational career guidance activities続きを見る
