Abstract This paper aims to examine the relationship between rhombic patterns and cultural lifestyles developed along the Silk Road as a study case. The following became clear after an analysis was made based ...on the survey's data:
1) Even though the rhombic pattern's use rate is overwhelmingly superior in China, it is possible to observe a smaller number of them in Central Asia, West Asia and Bulgaria.
2) The rhombic pattern's application is mainly observed in the surfaces of house's facades as well as of doors. In China, it also extends to everyday life articles' designs.
3) Various techniques to shape rhombic patterns exist. From these, the "synthetic stone washout finish" one became widely popular from 1970 on, and it can be found in regions ranging from China to Bulgaria.
4) The rhombic patterns' chained compositions were used in China from the Qing Dynasty on. However, a detailed argumentation concerning the rhombic patterns' origins will be made in a future task. Moreover, concerning to the angled comer compositions, they have been detected in China, Uzbekistan and Iran. It is clear, therefore, that such design is not found only in China.
5) The relationship between rhombic patterns and cultural lifestyles does not have a particular defined purpose. They were decided inside the communities' gatherings where the families and the construction workers would meet up to talk about their regional customs, traditions as well as recent years' trends. By making use of this rhombic patterns, the Chinese public facilities intentionally denote their national identity.
