Abstract Marcel Breuer is one of the most creative designer in the history of design at Bauhaus. If creative work is defined by its adding value, such as patent applications and awards, he designed pieces at t...he time when there were many other competitors in similar directions towards the use of new materials and technologies, he was not always the first runner at all the time, but he completed pieces which have creative values and are considered as modern classics today. In this paper, the aim is to research how and under what occasion he designed his pieces of furniture, from furniture design point of view, and in comparison with counterpart designs. In conclusion, similarities were found with other designer's works, but also new attempts in detailing and the use of materials are identified. It is notable that he could design in four different materials in each era: wood at Waimar, metal at Dessau, aluminum at Zulich and plywood at London, and achieved the highest works in each by utilizing his previous or other designer's works.show more
