概要 This paper is the third of the series on the formation of the manaita culture in Japan. It aims at discussing the changes in manaita forms in the Meiji era and thereafter by researching manaitas store...d in local museums over the country, and So(俎) chopping boards used at traditional ceremonies. Finding are as follows: I. Forms and shapes of manaita have not been standardized. Most of existing large manaitas had been used at financially affluent families on ceremonial occasions. 2. Both broadleaf and needle-leaf wood has been used for manaita. Willow wood monaitas was popular especially in the Touhoku area. 3. Four-pod manaita had been used in Western Japan until the Second World War. Manaita with two-crosspieces have been inherited all over the country and some are still used at present. Various ornament had been provided on the crosspieces from the Meiji era to the early Showa era. 4. The custom using manaita with an attitude of sitting on one's legs, had been inherited in rural villages until after the Second World War. 5. So (俎) chopping boards used at traditional cutlery ceremonies have not necessarily inherited their ancient forms and structures.続きを見る
