| Abstract |
Fukuoka City has developed itself not only as a commercial city but also as a harbor city facing the Hakata Bay, which characterizes the city geographically and environmentally. For the past forty yea...rs, the city has promoted lots of land reclaiming projects to expand the urbanized areas and construct the functional facilities for meeting the social needs in the process of modernization. This study focuses on the bay area of Fukuoka City, and aims to clarify its chronological development process and the relationship between the land reclaiming projects and the city's development and then approaches to the planning issues in the bay area. As conclusion, the study reveals the characteristics of the land reclaiming projects in each of ages, and points out the current trends and planning issues.show more
