Abstract The purpose pf this study was to examine the influences of life skills on career maturity in university judo players, focusing on grade differences. In June 2016, a survey of 509 university judo playe...rs (male: 407, female: 102, mean age: 19.71 ± 1.28years, mean period of experience: 12.37±5.71years) was conducted using the Appraisal Scale of Required Life Skills for College Student Athletes (Shimamoto et al., 2013) and the Life Career Maturity Scale (Sakayanagi, 1999). The former evaluates the life skills acquired by athletes using 10 dimensions (setting goals, communication, stress management, maintaining physical health and well-being, always making one's best effort, maintaining etiquette and manners, taking responsibility for one's own behavior, thinking carefully, being humble, appreciating others). The later evaluates the student's life career interest, autonomy and planning ability. The analysis was conducted by classifying students into lower grades (1st and 2nd grades) and upper grades (3rd and 4th grades). In addition, life skills used aspects (self-control skills, goal achievement skills, communication skills and problem-solving skills) classified by Yamamoto et al. (2019). As a result of the covariance structure analysis, problem-solving skills in lower grades had a significant positive effect on all aspects of career maturity. On the other hand, upper grades showed that self-control skills and goal achievement skills had a significant positive effect on all aspects of career maturity. Based on above results, it was suggested that there are differences in life skills to increase career maturity according to grades. Therefore, it is necessary to provide appropriate educational support according to the grade of university judo players.show more
