The aim of this cross-sectional study was to clarify the interest and the use of illegal drugs, and to investigate possible abuse-related factors, including attitudes toward fashions, among Japanese u...niveristy students. Particularly, the work focused on tattooing, piercings, gambling, and having cannabis pattern goods in relation to drug abuse. As a result, 114 subjects with illegal drug abuse were selected out of 13960 screened (0.8%). Those who had tattoos, cannabis pattern goods, smoking, and gambling respectively abuse illegal drugs. The use of illegal drugs was also positively related to the experience that received invitation to drug abuse, and negatively associated with the method of obtaining illegal drugs and the state of mental health, assessed by 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). This study suggests that tattoos, cannabis pattern goods, and problematic behaviors, such as gambling and smoking, in addtion to the experience and acquisition regarding illegal drugs, seem to have causal reltations to the use of illegal drugs. These factors are also taken into account when planning a drug abuse prevention program toward university students in Japan.続きを見る
