Abstract	Japanese animation films are now established worldwide as important cultural products, and the works of Hayao Miyazaki from Studio Ghibli are leading examples of this. This paper aims to analyze the m...eanings of the names of the characters and their cultural backgrounds in five major works by Miyazaki: Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.
