Abstract | This paper attempts to discuss the correlation between the weakness of the protagonist's personality and his wife's hysteria in Kazuo Hirotsu's Shinkeibyo Jidai. Their personalities are in stark contr...ast to each other; the husband is weak and inactive while the wife is active. Although he did not love her, he married her because he could not refuse her when she asked him. The hero is depressed by her intermittent hysteria, which is caused by his lack of love for her. He is often obliged to try to satisfy her sexually in order to quiet her hysteria. After their baby is born, he realizes that it is difficult to divorce her. This paper argues that her hysteria is correlated with the loss of his personality.show more |
