概要 Nanam (J. Ranan), a city in Hamgyŏng Pukto Province, started to develop into a military city at the end of the Russo-Japanese War (September 1905), when the military garrison of the Japanese Army for ...the defense of the northern Korean peninsula was constructed there. In as early as March 1907, the Japanese residents' association there established Nanam Elementary School. Nanam Middle School was founded in May 1924 as the tenth middle school in Korea for Naichijin, or Japanese residing in colonial territories, following those in Keijō (K. Kyŏngsŏng; present Seoul), Fuzan (K. Pusan), Heijō (K. Pyŏngyang), Ryūzan (K. Yongsan), Taiden (K. Taejŏn), Taikyu (K. Taegu), Genzan (K. Wŏnsan), Gunzan (K. Kunsan) and Kōshū (K. Kwangju). This study describes the process of how Nanam Middle School developed into the best middle school in Hamgyŏng Pukto Province, and explores its unique school culture which derived from its location in a military city. Nanam Middle School was the "Mecca" for militaristic education in northern Korea, producing many "home front youths." On the other hand, the school was considered by its faculty as "the best school in Hamgyŏng Pukto Province" in both military arts and academics. This perception was substantiated by the fact that the school continued to attract students from not only throughout Hamgyŏng Pukto Province but also from as far away as Manchuria despite the successive establishment of new schools nearby.続きを見る
