| Abstract |
As an introduction to linguistics, interrogative sentences are an important sentence pattern. In Chinese this includes the “shi bu shi” constructions. At present, research on Chinese “shi bu shi” cons...tructions in China mainly focuses on its definition and attributes. In the 1990s, the discussion regarding the Chinese “shi bu shi” constructions from the point of view of pragmatics and cognitive semantics began to grow. Nevertheless, the research discussed from the point of view of modality is still in progress and there are a lot of questions. Firstly, this paper sorts out the research on the concept of modality, then it points out problems of prior research on Chinese “shi bu shi” constructions.show more
