Abstract | The word "renjia" in Chinese is recognized as both a noun and a personal pronoun. In this research, we target the use of "renjia" as a personal pronoun. There are various usages of “renjia” as a perso...nal pronoun such as referring to various personalities. Although there are detailed descriptions of each usage in the previous research, there is little discussion about the essential functions of "renjia". The purpose of this study is to elucidate the essential functions of "renjia" used as a personal pronoun according to Togo’s "Discourse Model Theory" (2000). We will examine how this theory can explain the usage of "renjia" as the "associative anaphora". So far, it has been considered possible to replace each usage of "renjia" with a personal pronoun corresponding to the function. However, some of the data collected by the author cannot be replaced with personal pronouns. Such occurrences have not been mentioned in previous studies. In this research, we will refer to the "associative anaphora" usage, and we would like to clarify its characteristics. As a result, using the Discourse Model Theory of Togo (2000), which has been developed from Mental Space Theory, we clarified that the "associative anaphora" usage of "renjia" can be used by activating different mental areas.show more |
