Abstract | The expressions of "thank you" dealt with in this research are used universally in various societies, and reflect the culturale and, social norms and values in which the language is spoken. Among them..., Japanese gratitude expressions are rich in variety and extremely complicated compared to other languages. "Each language reflects different cultural values and customs, as many linguistic contrast studies show, and the natural use of target language expression is often difficult even for advanced users" (Nakamura p.243). For Japanese language learners, it is not easy to use appropriate expressions of gratitude in individual situations. However, despite the fact that it is a difficult item to learn, there are places where teaching is insufficient. Therefore, there is first an overview with regards to gratitude in the contemporary Japanese language, the behavior characteristics, expressions, variables affecting the use of gratitude, etc., and what has been elucidated is summarized.Thereafter the characteristics of Japanese gratitude are further clarified, by contrasting the expressions of gratitude between Japanese-English, Japanese-Chinese, and Japanese- Korean.show more |
