Abstract This report is an analysis of the activities of civic groups in Japan that supported Son Jin-doo, a victim of the Korean atomic bomb, during the trial and the meaning of these activities.
In response ...to the Japanese and Korean governments’ lukewarm response to damage compensation for the victims, the victims, including Son Jin-doo, chose to smuggle themselves into Japan for treatment. News of their illegal entry into the country and the plight of Korean atomic bomb victims became known to the Japanese community.
Upon hearing the news, some Japanese citizens formed a group to provide support for Son's trial and treatment. Civic groups in Japan felt responsibility for the bombing as a post-war Japanese citizen for being discriminated against by Japan's atomic bomb victims in the post-war period. This is both a criticism of the anti-nuclear bomb campaign in Japan at the time and a reflection of Japan as a nation for one Korean atomic bomb victim.
