概要 |
Wild boar and deer are captured to reduce negative impact on agriculture and forest vegetation in the various parts of Japan. However, the use of captured wild boar and deer is limited. Recently, “car...cass feeding”, which is an approach feeding a zoo’s carnivorous animal a large carcass, is getting attention as environmental enrichment in Europe and America. In contrast, the carcass feedings are not performed in Japan because of the difficulty in obtaining the large carcass in Japan. For this situation, voluntary organization“ Wild meǽt Zoo” were established in 2017 and this organization have connected stakeholders of “local beast harm” and “animal welfare in zoo” based on scientific communication approach. For these two years, we have attempted carcass feeding of captured wild animals to large carnivorous in zoo, and verified the effects of carcass feeding as environmental enrichment effects and the perceptions of visitors. In March 2019, we held a symposium in the Omuta city zoo to summarize the significance and problems based on results of our practical activities, and to discuss a ripple effect of this activity. It is expected that a high educational program showed a carcass feeding to the park visitors is highly effective at social education.続きを見る
