Abstract Until the 29th year of Kai-yuan (開元) - 741 A. D. - Pinglu-fan (平盧藩) had had nothing but two army corps. But in the following year - the 1st of Tien-pao (天宝) - two army corps in Ping-chou (平州) (inside ...the Great Wall of China) were transferred from Lu-tung-fan (盧龍藩) to here, and in the 2nd of Tien-pao - 743 A. D. - seven army corps were established more at the area of Liao-hsi (遼西) (outside of the Great Wall). These seven army corps were all stationed in the east of Liao-hsi, between the Ta-ling-ho (大凌河) and the Liao-ho (遼河), except one unknown army corps. It was a treatment for the following facts. The forces of nomadic tribes were weakened by the fall of Tu-chuh (Türküt). As Po-hai (渤海) in the inner area of Manchuria had became strong, it happened the fear of their invasion to Small Kao-chu-li (小高句麗国), the center of which was Liao-yang (遼陽). It was An-lu-shan (安禄山) that achieved the expansion of armaments in Ping-lu-fan. By this expansion he strengthened the control of Tang (唐) to Manchuria. But after about ten years, he conspired against the state. The force of army for the foreign countries in this area immediately broke down.show more
