Abstract | The historians and economists in the United States have continued arguments on the ante bellum slavery for more than one hundred years. And still they have not reached a consensus on this problem. It ...might be nonsense to expect that this vexing problem will ever be resolved to everyone's satisfaction. I believe, however, it may give us some suggestions for substantial progress in solving the problem that we trace the development of this lasting dispute through the works of the most able participants in it. That is why I have tried here to have a perspective view of the history of controversy of the ante bellum slavery. By the way I was compelled to limit my view within the sphere of the modern controversy since the rise of the revisionists and to give up making a more detailed explanation of the works of some important disputants.show more |
