Abstract The authors have been conducting a study to develop and propose a sustainable friction damping system which consists of the concrete block wall assembled by dry construction method and the connecting ...part to the main structure. In this system, concrete blocks are not bonded to each other at their joint parts of the wall, making it possible to be disassembled once assembled. So the components of this system can be easily reused or recycled. In this study, the authors conducted a horizontal dynamic cyclic loading test of positive and negative alternations in the in-plane direction of a dry-masonry concrete block damping wall using aluminum washers for the sliding part in order to develop the friction damping system, and investigated the mechanical characteristics such as horizontal strength and energy absorbing capacity. As a result of the test, it is found that the higher damping effect could be acquired in case where sliding parts are distributed to some, and where the stroke of the part which is fixing the aluminum washer is larger.show more
