This paper is a study about city planning history in China during Modem Era. This paper aims to analyze the rearrangement of urban space by public works of city government in shanghai. And then, this ...paper will examine how the newspapers of the time reported the public works. Public works were carried out in various ways. While bold plans are focusing on the future was made, many small-scale projects were also promoting the modernization of the traditional urban spaces, maintenance and repair.
