Abstract This paper aims to reevaluate ‘Style-Ga’ (near full-page in height illustration of manga character wearing fashionable clothes) in Japanese girlsÕ comics, particularly those published in the monthly m...agazine Shōjo Club. ‘Style-Ga’ are thought to have played an important role in the development of the original visual style of girls’ comics, and Takahashi Macoto, whose works were published in the monthly magazine Shōjo, is commonly accepted as their inventor. But Maruyama Akira, editor of the monthly magazine Shōjo Club, said that in his magazine, fashionable ‘Style-Ga’ began with woman manga artists. Inspired by this remark, this paper considers another lineage of ‘Style-Ga’ as fashionable images.show more
