Relevance of Catastrophic thought and self-esteem in University students by a negative thought standard

Abstract Catastrophic thought is occurred from some worrying or anxious, and the thoughts will continue to catastrophic thought. In this study, the author investigated the relevance between catastrophic though...t and self-esteem, because someone has a catastrophic thought has a tendency of getting antsy or no confidence, and which is assumed that there is a relevance of self-esteem. The author took inventory survey for 171 university students by a negative thought standard comprised of three factors, ruminative worry, worry caused by the interpersonal relation, and worry related to social phenomenon. By the cluster analysis using this standard, they were classified into four groups, a group of self-consciousness thought, one of optimistic thought, one of generally negative thought and one of adoptive thought. Then, as a result of the considering about the relevance between each group and self-esteem, a group of self-consciousness thought and one of generally negative thought received lower self-esteem score than one of adoptive thought and one of optimistic thought, and there are significant differences.show more
