Observations on heading of diploid and autotetraploid rice revealed that though the heading period of autotetraploid rice was longer and less regular than their corresponding diploid forms, the date of the first panicle emergence was the same in some varieties. In Rikuu 132, blooming of autotetraploid started 2 hours later than the diploid reached its maximum and ceased nearly at the same time with the diploid.
