Up to present, very few noticeable embryological investigations on the general reproduction of Japanese bats have been made. Moreover, as the collection of the house bat, Pipistrellus tralatitius abramus (Temminck) is more difficult than that of bats living in the cave, the studies of this bat are few in Europe and America as well as in Japan. I have observed the following points in this bat.　1) It seems that in this bat the ovulation occurs on the last decade of April and the parturition takes place on the first ten days of July. So the period of gestation is considered to be about seventy days. 2) The number of the litter ranges one to three, the case of two youngs (fetuses) being most common. 3) Mother bat never fly holding her young.
蝙蝠の交尾期は秋であるが，排卵及び受精は翌春迄延期される事は，多くの欧州学者により研究され，一般の定説となつている．しかしながら，日本産翼手目の排卵期，分娩期ひいては妊娠期間，更に産児数等の確実な観察記録は甚だ少く，イエコウモリのそれらに関する記載としては，筆者の知る限りでは，岸田（'24, '36），黒田（'27, '40, '48, '49），中野（'28）及び丹羽（'36）のものを見るにとどまり，何れも満足な結論に至つていないが，特にその排卵期，妊娠期間に就ては殆ど知られていない．筆者は翼手目の生殖全般に亘る発生学的研究の再検討の第一歩として最も普通なイエコウモリに就て研究し，幸い相当多数の個体を蕃殖期に採集し得たので妊娠期間及び産児数に就て此処に報告する．本文に入るに先だち，終始懇篤な指導を賜つた平岩教授，三宅助教授に謹んで感謝の意を表する．
