Minamiarima is one of the towns classified into hilled area in Nagasaki prefecture. Agriculture production is the basic economical activity of this district. But this town is suffering the increasing number of aged farmers and the decreasing tendency of the whole population. Moreover, the insufficient conditions of agricultural infrastructure are accelerating the regional problems toward the undesirable situations. To activate the agriculture of this district, new policies supported by government are required. The optimal land use planning for improving agricultural infrastructure is one of the policies expected. First, GIS data were used for clarifying the・factors related the potential productivity of each land and the map-information were saved in a database. Second, the over-lay technique was applied for classifying agricultural lands. Third, the results were used for the optimal zoning of those lands to promote the agricultural infrastructure.
