Abstract |
A group version of Stroop and reverse-Stroop color-word test, which used matching tasks, was produced by Hakoda and Sasaki (1990). By using the New Stroop Test I, this study examined the developmental... changes and gender differences of the Stroop and reverse-Stroop interference. Two-thousand seven-hundred forty five participants (male, 1186. female, 1559) took part in the new Stroop test I. Results were analyzed for 15 different age groups. IN two interferences, we di not find a consistent pattem of gender differences through all age groups. For Stroop interference, developmental changes were similar to those obtained in previous studies. In contrast, reverse stroop interference achieved maximum value in groups of 7-8 and 8-9 years of age and decreated with aging disappearing in age group of 70-92. We discussed tha the asymmetric trait of two kinds of interference showed that each type of interference was based on a different cognitive mechanism. The new stroop test I might be a valuable tool to the researcher as a measure of individual difference in various aspects of cognitive control.show more
