| Abstract |
Home-based enterprises (HBE) have become a unique component in Kampung Kota settlement of Surakarta. They exist in urban slum areas where houses function both as residential buildings and informal eco...nomic activities spaces. It can be said that HBEs are embedded in the urban environment of kampung kota and develop spontaneously. This study aims to verify the physical elements of the kampung that are affected by HBEs activities, particularly in urban slum areas. The chosen study area is Kampung Kenteng, Semanggi Neighbourhood, Surakarta. To achieve the purpose of the study, the existing condition of HBEs and the correlation between the physical characteristics and the residents of kampung are identified. The study then clarifies the flexibility between the productive (craftsmen, foodstall, and grocery) and dwelling space. Finally, it summarizes the characteristics of the productive space of HBEs. Kampung Kenteng has spatial characteristic which is considered, to some extents, as local citizen urbanism knowledge.show more
