Abstract The aim of this research is to investigate the sustainable cultivation and methods in the use of wood as national resources in the bent wood furniture industries. Based on literature reviews, field su...rveys and hearing surveys, the lumbering of Fagus Crenata as a traditional material, is subjected to a total ban in national forests. Besides, at least within the period of 100 years from now, it was affirmed that there is no attemptin regeneration and no desire in restoration of the Fagus Crenata resources. Currently, Quercus Serrata, a material that posseses similar properties as a Fagus Crenata, is readily available. While using Quercus Serrata as a material effectively, replenishment as a resource can be eagerly anticipated if effort is put in to cultivate the Quercus Serrata forests as there are still many young Quercus Serrata trees. But, since after the Second World War, with little drastic changes to the policy that Forestry Agency had enforced in the lumbering of broad-leaved trees and afforesting coniferous trees, the prospect of being the material for bent wood furniture industries cannot be visualised.show more
