Abstract A field hospital is a mobile hospital of an army. It consists of army surgeons (doctors), pharmaceutical officers(pharmacists), and military medics(nurses). It is for combat service support and its me...mbers are not assigned to fight. They are likely to be disregarded, but when it comes to the crunch, military medics were most relied on by soldiers. Here are the pictures of the Japanese Army and China that a commissioned officer(an officer cadet at that time) took in China 70 years ago, from 17 th to 20 th of Showa period. He belonged to a second field hospital (2 FL) of South China expeditionary force No. 104 division. Among these are pictures taken during maneuvers of No. 104 division in Seien and Shokan along the Hokkou River, in Goshu and Ryushu along the Saikou River. His pictures show different aspects of the soldiers. Some were worn-out and quite different from brave soldiers who appeared in pictures taken by photographers hired by the army. His pictures also show soldiers in daily lives, and towns and villages in Kanton City and Butuzanchin, where the Japanese army established military garrisons.show more
