Abstract | “Maruiku” programs are education programs proposed by the private sector, which are deprived from “dietary education” prevailing as a National Educational Movement in Japan. The purpose of this paper ...is to find the characteristics in the content of their education and planning processes, that are common with the concepts of “bricolage” and “the science of the concrete” presented in “The Savage Mind” written by Levi-Strauss. These education programs are implemented through the use of daily living articles and daily living practices. The author discussed these education programs from an anthropological perspective of cultural resources studies and technical practical studies, and could find out the educational resources and concepts unique to private education, which are not found in the public school education program. Its characteristics are( 1) freedom in the organization of education materials, not restricted by the public education system, (2) practical educational content using familiar living resources as education materials and (3) a flexible mindset that can freely utilize familiar life resources depending upon educational purpose. These characteristics are common with the concept and technique of “bricolage” supported by the theory of “the science of the concrete” that Levi-Strauss found in “primitive society,” and in that sense, “maruiku” programs of today can be said to be education programs structured upon “the science of the concrete” as the intellectual foundation.show more |
