Abstract Under the current Japanese law, it is practically difficult to use the work of others on MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). However, it is not realistic to give university lectures without using any c...opyrighted works. Therefore, the license agreement would be the only way to solve the problem of using the copyrighted works of others while giving online university lectures. Meanwhile, at present, there are no collective management organizations capable of dealing with licenses, so obtaining licenses also involves various procedural and monetary difficulties in reality. And there is not much prospect that the copyright restriction provisions concerning the use of copyrighted works while giving online university lectures will be established under the Copyright Act. In the future, it is desirable to have collective management organizations for MOOC, and also to develop technologies such as an image retrieval system that enables the detection of the copyrighted works.show more
