Abstract |
It is known that the wind damage spreading of residential houses is more strongly affected by gust speeds rather than maximum wind speeds. The authors have turned more attention to a duration time and... fluctuation characteristics of the wind gusts too. The damage analyses results based on Typhoon Bart, 1999, have indicated that the damage spreading has higher correlation to the standard deviation of the wind gust rather than the intensity of turbulence, so the damage rate increased with the standard deviation of the wind gust. Comparisons of time evolutions of the wind records at selected observation points have indicated more serious damage at a area with higher fluctuation of the wind speed. Although the above is examination based on the survey of just one typhoon damage, it is suggested that the fluctuation intensity as well as the duration of high wind speed is a significant factor of spreading of structural damage.show more
